Sterling Tech-Mobility Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sterling Tools Partners, has announced a strategic collaboration with Kunshan GLVAC Yuantong New Energy Technology, a subsidiary of China-based Kunshan GuoLi Electronic Technology Co Ltd. Together, they will set up a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Bengaluru for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) contactors and relays, specifically designed for electric and hybrid vehicles. This venture, valued at an investment of ₹40 crore, is expected to position India as a hub for advanced EV technology.

This partnership aligns with India's ambitious goals for the electric vehicle (EV) sector, supporting a self-reliant ecosystem for electric and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). By establishing local production for HVDC contactors and relays, the companies aim to make these crucial components more accessible and affordable for Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and tier-1 suppliers. These high-voltage components are essential for managing and controlling the flow of electricity between the battery, motor controller, inverter, and other power systems in EVs, enhancing operational efficiency while ensuring the highest safety standards.

The HVDC contactors and relays that will be produced at the Bengaluru facility provide vital safe-switching and isolation functions, crucial in EV power circuits. Designed to prevent hazards such as electrical faults, fires, or explosions, these components offer a critical safety advantage in the event of accidents or short circuits. According to Anish Agarwal, Director at Sterling Tools Limited, "As the electric and hybrid vehicle markets continue to expand, it is important that we integrate the highest safety measures. Our Bengaluru facility will make advanced HVDC contactors and relays more affordable and accessible, meeting the growing demand from OEMs and tier-1 companies."

The new facility is anticipated to generate business worth ₹250 crore by FY30, catering to India’s growing EV and HEV market. This move also gives Indian manufacturers easier access to advanced automotive technology, reducing dependency on imports and supporting local innovation.

Li Qinghua, General Manager at GLVAC YT, expressed the importance of India in the EV market, stating, "Through our association with Sterling Tools Limited, we are poised to strengthen the EV and HEV sectors in India. As a key player in EV components, we recognize India’s immense potential."

This collaboration between Sterling Tech-Mobility and GLVAC YT is set to play a significant role in shaping India’s EV landscape, making advanced EV technology more available, safer, and economically viable for the domestic market. The venture signals an important step toward the sustainable growth and technological advancement of India’s electric vehicle sector.
