Mercedes-Benz has launched its second 'Made-in-India' all-electric vehicle, the EQS SUV 580 4MATIC, at an introductory price of ₹1.41 crore. Manufactured at the company’s Pune plant, this launch follows the 2022 release of the EQS 580 sedan. India is the second country, after the USA, to manufacture the EQS SUV, which is also produced at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama.

The EQS SUV boasts a powerful 122kWh battery, providing a remarkable range of 809 km. With a fast-charging time of just 31 minutes, the vehicle also offers a battery warranty of 10 years, catering to long-term reliability for consumers. The SUV is set to capitalize on the growing luxury electric vehicle market in India, where demand for SUVs has surged.

In addition to introducing the EQS SUV, Mercedes-Benz India has committed to investing ₹200 crore more towards its manufacturing and digitization initiatives. This investment adds to the company's cumulative ₹3,000 crore investment in its manufacturing plant in Chakan, Pune.

With the EQS 580 sedan already seeing sales of over 500 units in its first 18 months, Mercedes-Benz expects the SUV version to further bolster its lineup. As SUVs now account for over 55% of the company's total sales in India, the new EQS SUV aligns with rising consumer demand.

“Our lineup of battery-electric vehicles now includes the EQA, EQB, EQE, EQS, and Mercedes-Maybach EQS, catering to a wide range of customer preferences," said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India. The company is also eyeing a 60% growth in EV sales for H1 2024, with EVs already accounting for 5% of its total sales.

Additionally, the company plans to install 10 ultra-fast chargers across India in 2024, further supporting the country's shift towards electric mobility. Mercedes-Benz also revealed that its upcoming electric G-Class has already garnered over 80 pre-bookings.

The launch of the EQS SUV 580 marks a significant milestone in Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle portfolio in India and promoting sustainable luxury mobility.
